I like to call this page "fun email stuff." Instead of keeping the emails you send me to myself, I can post some them here on the fun email stuff page. We could have kind of a fun email stuff Blog.
In the last couple of years since Oldiesquiz has been on the net, I've received a lot of emails or, fun email stuff, from my visitors. I have been delighted to receive them. I've decided to publish the very nice ones ands the ones that provoke me into a tirade. Like the first one below about Michael Jackson.
Hey Easy Ed,
Careful with the Michael Jackson stuff! I mean MICHAEL JACKSON! I like Oldiesquiz very much. I think their is a lot of great stuff on it. I like your writing style and enjoy your wholesome dry wit. But, geez! Michael Jackson doesn't belong here. Or, if he does, I don't. Listen ,Easy Ed, go disco on us and you'll lose us all!

Hello J.M.
Thanks for visiting Oldies Quiz and thanks for dropping me a line. Being an oldies fan, maybe you will enjoy a cruise with me through the streets of Oldiesville, USA, 1971. See back then I would take a ride, with a hot date on a Saturday night down the streets (more like cow pastures) of the rural, surrounding towns of Danbury, CT. Though the area was placid and bucolic, the radio station that we listened to was right out of New York City. We would listen to Wolfman Jack who, on Saturday night, would play, of all things, nothing but oldies! It was great as my girlfriend and I relived all those memories of four years earlier. Sometimes the memories would go back even further, like, seven years. That was the "British Invasion" as 1971 was seven years after the Beatlemania phenomenon took hold.
Of course, Wolfman would also play early Elvis songs and other records from that era. These songs I didn't appreciate when they were new, but I was loving them in 1971. You see, Elvis became the rage in 1956, a full 15 years earlier and it was music that belonged to a generation before mine. Elvis was great and I enjoy his music still today, but his music isn't mine. It belongs to folks just a little older than me. My generation is The Beatles.
The song, "Billie Jean" is plenty old enough! It was released in 1981 and was a huge number 1 hit in 1982. Playing this song on the radio today is the same as if Wolfman played a song from 1947 when it was 1971! Like maybe a Bing Crosby. tune. 1947 was, of course, way before the Rock and Roll era had begun.
My point is this: As well as people in their 50's and older, many of my web site visitors are in their mid to late 40's some are even in their 30's! They love the early Beatles music but they couldn't listen to The Beatles when they first came out because these people weren't born yet. Songs like "Billie Jean" are their oldies because they were teenyboppers 24 years ago. Toto, Hall & Oates, Styxx, I think of these artists as new but they came on the music scene a long time ago. These artists are Bing Crosby to some of my visitors!
Oldiesville is a big place. There is room in it for anyone who likes to reminisce, and who doesn't these days? In Oldiesville there are no taxes, terrorists, Mortgage Payments, late charges and most of all, there is no growing old.
So, let's give our younger friends a break. They love our Dion & The Belmonts. They love our Dave Clark 5. Let's let them have their "Billie Jean." After all, if she was 26 when Jacko started singer about her, she's 50 now. She's an old bag just like us!
Sincerely, (Number 1 for The McGuire Sisters in 1955)

Easy Ed:
I read the letter from the guy protesting the Michael Jackson question. Then I read your letter back to him. It was a very nice letter but I come down on the anti-Jackson side. Actually, I started to have some misgivings about your site when I read a Barry White question.

Hello B.B.
Go easy on Barry White , now! He had been in the music business a long, long time. I liked Barry White. He was an original. His last words were, " Leave me alone, I'm fine."

Hi Easy Ed:
I'm with you. I love your site. I love the oldies. I can't get enough Do-Wop. I think it's the real music. To tell you the truth, it was too old for my parents to listen to the first time around. They had me when they were very young and they were part of the long hair time. Now I'm 36 and have 3 kids, 2 girls and 1 little chap. Though I listen to oldies now and read about them on your web site, Michael Jackson is an oldie as far as I'm concerned. When I was in junior High School , Thriller was the rage the whole time. Thank you for your web site and thank you for defending my right to have oldies of my own.

Hi Sheila:
Thank you, and I will continue to do so. Also, your letter proves that I am old enough to be your father. You see, I had long hair, too. Now I'll take a hair any length I can get one!

Hello Brian:
Thank you for the kind words. I, too, have visited other trivia sites, espesially oldies music sites. I know what you mean. Some of these Sites will ask a difficult question and then, ridicule you if you're wrong. I've also seen inaccurate and unexplained answers on these Sites. It was my visits to these Web Sites that made me feel that oldiesquiz was necessary. Now, oldiesquiz is the fastest growing trivia Web Site on the World Wide Web. It is so because of people, like you, who like to feel at home.
So, by all means, make yourself at home. You are my guest. I will treat you with the respect you deserve and I will try my best to keep oldiesquiz informative.
